Vocal group "Vocalica"
Vocal group "Vocalica" from Jaunpils, Latvia is founded in autumn 2004. Music is not a profession or daily occupation for anyone of us, even our leader Ainars Plezers, but singing is what we love to do in our free time. It's already more than a hobby, it's a lifestyle! :)
Great part of our repertoire consists of medieval and Renaissance music, and a reason of this is that we come from little village Jaunpils with wonderful medieval time castle built in 1301. Among them significant part of repertoire consists of sacred music and arrangements of Latvian and foreign composers of different periods. Group performs usually a cappella.
"Vocalica" has participated in national vocal ensemble contests 2005 - 2011 and has taken first places in all levels (local, regional and national). In June 2011 "Vocalica" has earned silver diploma in 13th international a cappella competition for vocal ensambles "Vokal Total 2011" in classical cathegory (Graz, Austria).
Group has performed in The XXIV Nationwide Latvian Song Celebration in 2008 (concert of vocal ensembles in St.Jana church in Riga). Group has participated in International vocal ensemble festival in Valka (Latvia) and Valga (Estonia) in 2006 and 2009, medieval festival in Gorlitz (Germany) in 2008 and medieval festival in Castello d'Empuries (Spain) (2009).
